This album contains images of H-Alpha emission nebulae in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) listed in a 1956 paper by Karl Henize (pronounced "hen-eyes"). Many of these objects are very small or point objects but others are large including the Tarantula Nebula (N157). Using an H-Alpha filter allows imaging even when the moon is reasonably bright. This project started out as a way to use telescope time in moonlight but has (inevitably) expanded to imaging all the objects. Karl Henize had a very interesting life and belies the oft heard “astronomers are boring old f**ts”. See my Henize writeup
for more.
